archaeological site

This art book work, called Archaeological Site, consists of a vintage world atlas into which I carved a canyon-like depression, exposing the layers of maps as a paper topography and revealing the tightly formatted text of the index at the canyon’s bottom, suggesting that text or narrative always forms the root of our ability to understand our surroundings. The atlas is suspended and held in place for inspection by four scientific laboratory clamps and stands.
