Next time you pass by the magazine store, do pick up the latest edition of Espace Magazine, in which you will find (among much more) my review of the exhibition Traverser le miroir, by Allison Moore and Arthur Desmarteaux. The show ran at Montreal's Galerie d’Art d’Outremont this past April 30 to May 24.

It was a really fun exhibition (and I would say my review of it is rather good, too!).

If you haven't yet picked up a copy of the spring edition of C Magazine, I suggest that you do—both because it's a great issue and because they published my review of the exhibition Bande à part / Kids These Days, curated by Zoë Chan.

This excellent show, which ran from September 10 to December 6, 2014, at the Foreman Gallery (Bishop's University, Lennoxville, Québec) featured work by Jo-Anne Balcaen (Montréal), Sarah Febbraro (Toronto), Kerri Flannigan (Montréal), Emmanuelle Léonard (Montréal), Kyla Mallett (Vancouver), Helen Reed (Vancouver), Guillaume Simoneau (Montréal), Althea Thauberger (Vancouver).

If you can't make it to the magazine store, you can always download my review here.

MY NEW STUDIO ON RUE DE GASPÉ

10/6/2015

I am happy and proud to announce my move into a new studio, Les 7 Ateliers, located at 5445, rue de Gaspé. My new studio colleagues are Stéphanie Beaulieu, Julie Laurin and Ian Langohr. Though slightly more expensive than my old location at Atelier Au Deuxième, it offers me more personal and storage space, less administrative responsibilities, better proximity to home (ten-minute walk) and closer access to the local art scene (six artist-run centres on the main floor of the building, Ateliers Portes Ouvertes happening annually, etc.). Positive change is always a good thing!

I will be retaining a second-tier membership at Au Deuxième for a month or two to finish off some outstanding sérigraphie projects. My recent move follows four happy years at Au Deuxième, which I founded in 2011 as a screenprint and fibre arts space together with colleagues Monique Mathieu, Madeleine Bartlett, Emily Comeau and Alanna Lynch.

residency at centre sagamie, alma, quebec

From May 26 to 30 I'm doing a residency at Centre Sagamie, an artist-run centre in the lovely town of Alma (in Quebec's Lac-St-Jean region) devoted to digital printing.
This is my second visit to Sagamie, and I'll be continuing work on two series—I conceived on my first visit--The Gourganes Group and Remotes—as well as experimenting and creating some new stuff.

I'll also be enjoying the clean air—a change from Boulevard St-Laurent--and Alma's incredible natural setting. Well, semi-natural ... all the lake and river levels are closely controlled by Rio Tinto Alcan, but the beauty here is still astounding.

N.E. Ontario Residency and CALQ Grant

From October 28 to November 16, I'll be away from Montreal on an art residency at Ateliers Topaz, a remarkable little place near Opasatika, Ontario, along Highway 11. Once a trucker motel called the "Opaz," Ateliers Topaz is owned and operated by Franco-Ontarian artist Laurent Vaillancourt, who bought it some years back and converted it into his personal studio and a residency destination.
My primary aim is to complete a great deal of work on my digital print series, The Gourganes Group. While at Topaz, I am also doing some writing and snapping great bunches of photos of the remarkable setting—referring, that is, both to the Atelier space itself and the country up here in northeastern Ontario.

My sincerest thanks to the Québec-Ontario Artist-in-Residence Program of the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec for making this experience possible.
